Barcelona Test, Day 4

Mercedes Lewis Hamilton ended Day 4 of Pre-Season Testing quickest as teams got valuable track time as the snow and rain cleared.

Hamilton heads final day of 1st Test

Mercedes Valtteri Bottas topped the morning session edging out Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg for the top-spot.

Conditions were far from ideal but drivers fitted wet tyres to their cars and headed out onto a damp, foggy track. As the lunch interval loomed, the track got drier and times tumbled.

McLaren’s Stoffel Vandoorne completed much needed mileage for McLaren with 72 laps on the board. Marcus Ericsson also completed 63 laps despite causing a red flag when he spun at Turn 2 and got beached in the gravel.

After lunch, Lewis Hamilton took over from Bottas in Mercedes as assumed control at the top. Hamilton set the fastest lap of the test so far with a 1:19:333 on medium tyres.

Stoffel Vandoorne rounded off a great day for McLaren as he tested out the new Hypersoft tyre and finished 2nd. The Belgian’s lap was ultimately half a second behind Hamilton’s time. Team-mate Fernando Alonso also completed 51 laps to 5th quickest overall.

Haas’s Kevin Magnussen was a surprise 4th after a low-key first test for Haas with 96 laps on the board.

Force India had their strongest day with Sergio Perez 8th quickest with 65 laps after poor start to the test as well.

It was another day to regret for Red Bull and Max Verstappen as the Dutch ended up in the gravel trap at Turn 12 with a long spell in the garage before that with only 35 laps completed.

“Mr Consistent” – Pierre Gasly registered a staggering 147 laps for Toro Rosso and ended up 10th quickest.

Sauber ended off a good first test with Charles Leclerc and Marcus Ericsson to 59 and 79 laps to 13th and 14th quickest.
