Stats After Hungary

Sebastian Vettel picked his second win of the season, his second win for Ferrari. The win in Hungary has put Vettel on the same number of wins as Ayrton Senna (41). Only Michael Schumacher and Alain Prost are ahead of wins.

Daniil Kvyat finished in second, his first ever podium and that has the best finishing position a russian has ever reached. The other, Vitaly Petrov, 3rd in Australia 2011.

It was Red Bulls first double podium since the Singapore Grand Prix last year. it was also Red Bulls biggest points tally of the season with 33 points.

Fernando Alonso finished a season best 5th place. With team-mate Jenson Button in 9th place it was McLaren’s first double points finish this season.

A difficult day for Mercedes with Hamilton 6th and Rosberg 8th. They only picked up 12 points, their lowest points tally of the season so far.

After Pastor Maldonado hat trick of penalties, he picked up two penalty points. The first penalty for the collision between Sergio Perez, the second for speeding in the pit lane and the third for overtaking under the safety car!

Hungarian Race Round 10

Read on as Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel wins an incredible and unpredictable race ahead of Red Bulls Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.

Sebastian Vettel wins an incredible, unpredicted race ahead of Red Bulls Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.

Just before the national anthem, the drivers gather at the front of the gird and place their helmets the middle. The drivers stand in a circle joined with Jules family and they hold an emotional one minute silence.

Formation lap
On the formation to the grid Felipe Massa misses his grid spot and all the drivers have to do another formation lap with Massa giving a 5 second penalty which will be given at his pit stop.

Race Start

The lights go out and Lewis Hamilton is a little slow off pole as Sebastian Vettel rockets past and into the lead, Nico Rosberg is second but Kimi Raikkonen just takes second going into turn 3. Vettel leads ahead of Raikkonen, Rosberg then Hamilton in 4th. Hamilton runs wide at turn 6 across the gravel after nearly coming together with Rosberg. Hamilton falls to 10th.
Lap 10, Hamilton starts his comeback after passing Massa then passing Sergio Perez on lap 13.

Lap 14 and drivers start to make their first pit stops with Valterri Bottas and Daniil Kvyat pitting that lap. Massa, Max Verstappen, Romain Grosjean and Jenson Button pit on lap 15. Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz pit on lap 16 with Perez and Marcus Ericsson pitting a lap later. Lap 19 and Perez tries to pass Pastor Maldonado round the outside of turn 1 but both touch and Perez spins. Lap 20 and Hamilton pits with Rosberg a lap later and Vettel on lap 22 and Raikkonen on lap 23.

Lap 24, Grosjean gets a 5 second penalty for an unsafe release. The same lap and Maldonado gets a drive through penalty for the collision with Perez on lap 19. Hamilton passes Ricciardo for 4th on lap 29. Lap 42 and Raikkonen says he is losing power and he is. Lap 43 and Hulkenberg loses his front wing into turn 1 and crashes heavily into the barrier bringing out the virtual safety car. Rosberg, Hamilton, Perez, Ericsson and Ricciardo react to the virtual and pit. Lap 44 and Ferrari double stack with Vettel in first and Raikkonen not far behind meanwhile the real safety car comes out.

The safety car passes through the pit lane due to the debris on track as the marshals clean up. Perez pits as a precaution and gets a new nose. Lap 49, the safety car comes in with Rosberg overtakes the disadvantaged Raikkonen into turn 1 with Ricciardo going round the outside off Hamilton, Hamilton locks up and makes contact with Ricciardo. Hamilton loses a piece of his front wing.

Lap 51 and Ricciardo is flying after the contact and passes Raikkonen for 3rd. Hamilton pits for a new nose a lap later. The next lap and Raikkonen pits and stalls, he manages to get it going but its terminal. Hamilton gets a drive through penalty for the contact with Ricciardo on lap 54. Lap 57 and Verstappen gets a drive through penalty for speeding in the pit lane at the same time Raikkonen retires with a hybrid failure resulting in a loss of power. A lap later and Maldonado receives another drive through penalty for speeding behind the safety car. Lap 62 and Sainz retires.

Lap 64, Ricciardo locks up by trying to pass Rosberg for 2nd into turn 1. Ricciardo goes wide and Rosberg cuts across resulting in a new nose for Ricciardo and a puncture for Rosberg. They both pit the next lap.

Lap 66, Kvyat, who now lies 2nd behind Vettel gets a 10 second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage which will be added at the end of the race.

Maldonado receives his third and last penalty of the day on lap 68 for speeding in the pit lane and receives a 10 second time penalty which will be given at the end of the race.

Vettel wins an extraordinary, eventful and classic Hungarian Grand Prix. On the slow down lap he thanks the team and talks about Jules and how this race is for him.

An absolute thriller! Best race of the season?

Ferrari are back on top and finally two podiums for Red Bull. Stella drives from Verstappen and Alonso to finish 4th and 5th. Finally a decent result for McLaren as Alonso was 5th and Button in 9th and 11 points they now have 17 points and only 5 points behind Sauber in 8th place.

I’m gutted for Raikkonen as it looked to be a Ferrari 1 – 2. There has been talks about his drive for 2016 but the first part of the race before the hybrid gave up, the job he did was great.

Three penalties is a joke from Maldonado, really with team-mate Grosjean in 7th, Maldonado should have been around there. Maldonado is losing points for himself and Lotus. If I was the team principal of Lotus I would talk to him and tell him his drive is at risk for 2016 as I would put reserve driver, Jolyon Palmer in his seat because results like this isn’t on!

Hungarian Qualifying Round 10

Read on as Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes takes pole position.

Hungary is one of my favourite races of the year being one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar with tyre temperatures being one of the main factors and high downforce being the other where engine power isn’t all that useful. Drivers will only be allowed to use the prime (Medium) and option (Soft) tyre during the weekend. Traffic will be a problem in Qualifying for overtaking isnt easy.

All thoughts go to Jules Bianchi’s family through this difficult time as his funeral was on Tuesday where many drivers and fans attended. #JB17

Qualifying

Q1 saw McLaren’s Jenson Button just missed out on Q2 by two tenths. Both Sauber cars of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson and Both Manor cars of Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens knocked out as well.

Q2 saw Fernando Alonso’s McLaren break down at the entry to the pit lane, he helped the marshals push it back to the garage and didn’t come back out on track that brought out the RED flag. With little time to go all drivers went out on the soft tyre. Both Force India’s of Nico Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus and Carlos Sainz’s Torro Rosso were knocked out.

Q3 saw the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo push Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel for 3rd which Vettel just secure. Hamilton put in an incredibly quick time to take pole ahead of troubled Nico Rosberg.

Qualifying Results

Alonso* did not set a time in Q2

Hamilton has been on top of every session so far this weekend so this could be an easy race for him tomorrow if Rosberg doesnt find the right balance in the car. The battle the Ferrari, Red Bulls and Wiliiams cars is close. Can Ricciardo take Red Bulls and his first podium this year or will the Ferrari’s hold him off?

McLaren has made a step this weekend with only two problems with Button losing two tenths on the run up to the finish line and Alonso stoping in the middle part of Q2. I think Force India did a amazing job to rebuild Perez’s car after his car rolled in Friday practise 1 because of an suspension failure. Considering both Force India cars did not run in Friday practise 2, 11th and 13th is a good showing.

R.I.P Jules Bianchi

It has been a very sad day with the news that today F1 driver, Jules Bianchi has died. He had been in a coma since his heavy crash at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.

Bianchi, 25 crashed on lap 41 into a recovery vehicle while it was removing Adrian Sutil’s Sauber after he crashed the lap before. Bianchi suffered severe head injuries.

The F1 community are very sad and have been remembering Bianchi on twitter and other social media sites.

Former F1 Champion and McLaren – Honda driver Jenson Button tweeted: “Last night we lost a truly great guy and a real fighter. RIP Jules, my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.”

Bianchi scored Marussia’s, and his first points at the 2014 Monte Carlo Grand prix finishing in 9th place with 2 valuable points for his team.

Bianchi’s death is the first death in the sport in two decades since Ayrton Senna’s death in 1994.

A great, talented and upcoming future champion who we lost too early.

My View And Opions

The best race of the season so far? It was nice to see both the Williams cars blast past both Mercedes cars at the start. I thought Williams could have let Bottas through before the first pit stops and could have had a go and possibly winning the race. I am so happy for Fernando Alonso for McLaren who finished 10th and a single world championship point, his first point of the season. Really good race by both Force India cars in their upgraded car to finish 7th and 9th. Overall an exciting race and I’m glad that the rain played a part in the outcome of the race.

Great Britain Round 9 Qualifying

Read on as home favourite Lewis Hamilton takes pole position round Silverstone.

Lewis Hamilton takes pole position ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa.

Wind is nearly always a factor that drivers have to face when they come to Silverstone and that played a part today. It was partly cloudy with the sun peaking in between the gaps. The drivers could not have all four wheels over the white lines at Copse corner or they would have their time disqualified.

Q1 saw both McLaren cars fail to make it out alongside both Manor Marussia cars and the Sauber of Felipe Nasr. Kimi Raikkonen for Ferrari was quickest ahead of Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel.

Q2 saw the up-to-date Force India car of Sergio Perez, both Lotus cars of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado, the Torro Rosso of Max Verstappen and the second Sauber of Marcus Ericsson not make it through to the final part of Qualifying.

Q3 and the first runs show that Hamilton holds the advantage over Rosberg. The final runs come up and Hamilton cannot improve. Neither can Rosberg. Hamilton takes pole Position ahead of Rosberg and Massa. Kimi Raikkonen beats Vettel to 5th. But both cars are out qualified by both Williams’s cars.

Qualifying Result
1.Hamilton 2.Rosberg 3.Massa 4.Bottas 5.Raikkonen 6.Vettel 7. Kvyat 8.Sainz 9.Hulkenberg 10.Ricciardo 11.Perez 12.Grosjean 13.Verstappen 14.Maldonado 15.Ericsson 16.Nasr 17.Alonso 18.Button 19.Stevens 20.Merhi

Lewis Hamilton may have struggled in Practises 1 and 2 but bounced back in Practise 3 and Qualifying to take pole. There have been talks Raikkonen could lose his seat at Ferrari but if he does Qualifying like today their might be a chance he could prove Ferrari wrong by out qualifying team-mate Vettel. Tomorrow will be interesting how the weather and tyres play into the outcome of the race.
